4) JORGE MERE
Jorge Mere looks destined for a bright future. The 19-year old center half has enjoyed a breakthrough season with Sporting Gijon featuring in 16 games so far. He has shown the composure and ability to play at the highest level with his sublime reading of the game. The defender, like many in his homeland, is good with the ball at his feet. With Pepe’s contract expiring in the summer, the Portuguese looks set to end his glorious time in Madrid. Pepe’s exit would not directly affect Los Blancos as Varane and Ramos have been the first-choice defenders for Zidane. However, for a club like Real Madrid, depth is essential. Mere could undoubtedly prove a perfect backup defender. A bright prospect, Mere could certainly catch Real Madrid’s eye.
3) MAURICIO LEMOS
The Uruguayan’s impressive showings at the heart of the defence have been a prime reason behind Las Plamas’ excellent season so far. The defender has shown the type of composure and leadership one would associate with Pepe during his heyday. Lemos’ fine form has seen him courted by Europe’s big guns. Rivals Barcelona are keen on bringing Lemos to Camp Nou so Real Madrid need to act quickly in order to bag one of the hottest properties in Europe at the moment. Still 21, Lemos has the potential to become the very best in his position and could be tempted by Real Madrid’s stature.
2) DELE ALLI
One of the best talents in the premier league at the moment, Dele Alli has continued his fine form from last season to this season. Alli has shown that he was no one-season wonder with some beautiful goals. Added to that, Alli has performed in the big games demonstrating his world-class potential. Alli’s form has led to continuous rumours about him joining Manchester City, who are apparently willing to break the bank for the Tottenham midfielder. There are not many in the game who can score from the midfield making late runs in the box, something Alli has excelled in. The midfielder is destined for a great career. All great players do end up joining Real Madrid or Barca, and with the Los Blancos already interested in Alli’s services, the midfielder could be tempted to take the next step in his career.
1) JULIAN WEIGL
Julian Weigl is undoubtedly the future of German football. Ever since Thomas Tuchel brought Weigl from 1860 Munich to Signal Iduna Park, Weigl has been a revelation. The 21-year old has shown supreme maturity to dictate the play from the deep with his impressive passing range. Weigl’s ability to keep the ball has been quintessential in Dortmund’s possession based football. The German has a bright future ahead of him. He should be on top of Real Madrid’s wish list. The midfielder could be Madrid’s own Sergio Busquets for years to come.
